State Considers Next Move In Hwy 23 Expansion

State officials will be meeting this week to discuss what is next in an effort to expand State Highway 23 between Fond du Lac and Plymouth to four lanes. State Senator Dan Feyen says the Governor’s office, DOT, legislative counsel and others will meet to talk about the next step after a Federal Appeals Court last week shot down the state’s appeal to restore federal funding for the project. He says there are options to be considered. He says the case could be taken to the U.S. Supreme Court, the state could move forward with the project using state funds only or passing lanes could be put in. He says as far as residents of the 18th State Senate District are concerned the expansion should be a priority for the sake of commerce and safety. He says the state could also ask the full panel of judges for the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals to review the recent 3-judge panel’s decision.
