State Legislators Introduce Bill to Create Wisconsin 9/11 Memorial Highway

State legislators introduced a bill Wednesday that would create the Wisconsin 9/11 Memorial Highway in Washington County. Senator Duey Stroebel and Representative Timothy Ramthun were joined at the Capitol Wednesday by family and friends of Andrea Lyn Haberman of Kewaskum, who was killed in the 9/11 attacks in New York. Haberman was in the north tower of the World Trade Center when it collapsed 18 years ago.

The bill would designate a stretch of Highway 28 between Interstate 41 and Highway 144 as the state's 9/11 Memorial Highway. In addition, signs would be placed directing visitors to the Wisconsin 9/11 Memorial in Kewaskum, and the memorial would be placed on all official Wisconsin maps. The memorial will include a two-thousand-pound steel beam salvaged from the north tower of the World Trade Center. Stroebel and Ramthun expect bipartisan support and are pushing for passage by this fall.
