State Patrol Sergeant Says Pursuit Was Unusual

State Patrol Sergeant Luke Newman says he’s been involved in high speed pursuits throughout his career, but never like the one that culminated at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh this past week. He says he was the duty supervisor that day and took the call and managed those involved in the pursuit. He says it is the first time he has ever heard of someone ramming a gate to get into an airport. In that pursuit a 56-year-old Manitowoc man fleeing a state trooper crashed through a gate at the airport. His vehicle became disabled between two runways. Newman actually instructs potential state troopers and inspectors about high speed pursuits at the State Patrol Academy, which involves simulated pursuits.
