State Sees Over 1,000 New COVID-19 Cases Saturday

The statewide mask mandate went into effect Saturday. The questions still remain as to how long it stays in place, and will residents of Wisconsin actually adhere to the new mandate. The Saturday number of new COVID-19 cases climbed over 1,000 on Saturday, marking the second time in a week we've seen that mark eclipsed.

The latest Dept. of Health Services figures show 1,062 more cases were confirmed statewide Saturday, bringing the seven-day rolling average to 876 cases per day. There were over 14,000 tests, with 7.1 percent positive.

It will be interesting to see where the Fond du Lac County numbers sit Monday, which would be just over the 14-day window of when the Fond du Lac County Fair ended. And what the numbers look like in another two weeks, once the Eden Picnic and the Sand Bar Bash end this weekend. From what we have seen and have been told from numerous sources, there's been very little social distancing (as witnessed by the Sand Bar Bash photo that was posted on their social media platforms) and even fewer people adhering to the mask mandate.

And while it's important to note the positive cases of COVID-19 in Wisconsin topped the 54,000 mark on Saturday, over 43,000 have also recovered from the virus, giving the state an almost 80% recovery rate so far.

Checked out youth baseball games, multiple venues/locations this weekend. Hundreds of people not wearing masks and not social distancing. It's a joke.
