State Supreme Court Race Today

Voters today will decide which of two candidates will sit on the State Supreme Court for the next ten years. Milwaukee County Judge Rebecca Dallet is hoping it will be her. Her opponent Sauk County Judge Michael Screnock feels he has more experience in the public and private sector, but Dallet says she has over 20 years experience as a prosecutor and judge. She says, “I’m the only candidate that has been a prosecutor. I’m the only one that knows what it is like to stand up for those victims in those really serious cases and I’ve handled over 11,000 cases as a judge and that is just really the kind of experience we need on that court.” Dallet takes exception to a TV ad that slams her actions in an attempted assault case. She says, “What you have is this business lobby running an ad about crime that has spent $1.3 million on my opponent’s campaign and they re-victimize the victims in that case by identifying who they are.” Dallet says she has made a pledge to not sit in on any cases where big money was spent on her race, but Judge Screnock has failed to make the same type of commitment.
