State Unemployment Rate Shows Slight Increase in September

Wisconsin’s unemployment rate rose slightly for the fourth
month in a row and is up nearly half a point since May. The State Department of
Workforce Development reported Thursday that unemployment in the state was 3.2
percent in September. That number is up a tenth of a percent from 3.1 percent
in August, and from 2.8 percent in April and May. DWD says the unemployment
rate is also two-tenths of a point ahead of where it was a year ago, but it remains
below the national unemployment rate of 3.5 percent.

Data shows the state gained 1,900 private sector jobs
between August and September – with the state total of private sector jobs up
12,300 since the same time last year.
