STEM Students Take Part In Learning Service Day

Students at STEM Institute, a project-based public charter school in the Fond du Lac School District, recently participated in a service learning day to give back to the community by helping local charities and organizations.

Nearly 105 students in sixth to eighth grade spent a minimum of three hours each taking part in various projects throughout the community. Students received donations from family and community members for supplies.

Projects that the students participated in included:

•      Making blankets to donate to Project Linus

•      Knitting hats for the Fond du Lac Solutions Center

•      Creating cards for those serving active duty in the military

•      Designing 3D snowflakes for citizens at Woodlands Senior Park

•      Crafting window and door hangers for Hospice Advantage

“Service learning is a vital part of our students’ education as it helps them understand the importance of giving back to their community,” remarked STEM Institute Principal Don Smith. “The Fond du Lac community plays a significant role in helping its public schools and students. Our service learning days teach these students how to show their gratitude and, in turn, encourages them to reciprocate that courtesy to others.”

STEM Institute will be hosting public tour nights for families interested in enrolling their fifth, sixth or seventh grader for the 2015-16 school year. Tour nights will be held:

•      January 13, 2015 at  6:00 – 7:30 pm

•      January 22, 2015 at  6:00 – 7:30 pm
