Sturgeon Spearing Impacts Economy

The sturgeon spearing season has an impact on the local economy. DNR Sturgeon Biologist Ryan Koenigs says the UW-Oshkosh conducted a study in the early 2000’s and at the time the impact of a 16-day season was estimated to be $3.5 million. Koenigs says he would like to do an update of the study because he’s sure that impact is much greater 15 years after the original study. Listen for sturgeon spearing reports on KFIZ during the season at 7:20 each morning and 5:20 each afternoon.  (DNR photo)
