Suit Filed Against City And Humane Society In Puppy Case

The 32-year-old Fond du Lac woman suspected of not providing enough water and shelter to 10 yellow lab puppies has filed a civil suit against the City and the Humane Society. Stacy Checolinski made an initial appearance in Fond du Lac County Court yesterday and was charged with 20 misdemeanor counts. A $1,000 signature bond was set.  Meanwhile she filed the civil suit last Wednesday. The suit claims four of the ten puppies had already been sold. The puppies were rescued on July 8th after a neighbor heard them barking. It was hot and humid and they were in a metal dog kennel in the backyard covered with a tarp. There was no food or drinkable water they could get to. Checolinski told police she had a friend stop by to check on the puppies that morning because she had to go to work early. The suit also contends the puppies were taken without a search warrant and notification.
