Summer Job Scams

The state’s Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection says there are scams attached to some summer job opportunities. Frank Frassetto of the agency says if you have to pay a little money up front for certification or some job tools the opportunity might not be real. He has some other words of advice. He says to watch out for the get rich quick ploys, the fake check scams, work at home promises or any other job that promises a high income for very little work or time. He also says to watch out for the fake check scams. He says one state resident fell for the scam. He says the company would send a fake check, with instruction to cash it, have the person take their cut out of it and send the remaining cash back to them. He says unfortunately that person’s lending institution didn’t realize the checks were fraudulent and that person ended up being liable for the money.
