Telemarketing Calls Top Consumer Complaint List

It should come as no surprise that telemarketing was telemarketing topped the state Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection’s Top Ten list of consumer complaints for 2016. Consumer Protection Administrator Frank Frassetto says they saw a 45 percent increase in telemarketing calls over 2015. He says that was driven by the imposter scams. He says that included the fake IRS/Treasury complaints, the robo Rachel from credit card services, and computer tech support calls. The number two complaint had to do with landlord/tenant complaints, which had mostly to do with security deposits. At number three were telecommunications complaints. Frassetto says most of those had to do with misrepresentations and excessive or unauthorized charges. The rest of the list can be seen at the DATCP website.
