Text Messaging Keeps FDL Police Up To Date During Standoff

Text messaging played a role in keeping Fond du Lac Police informed during a standoff incident at an apartment complex on North Peters Avenue early this morning. Assistant Police Chief Steve Thiry says text messages from one of the victims to an acquaintance led to police involvement. Thiry says that same victim also kept police updated with text messaging when they got to the scene and couldn’t make contact with the 25-year-old Fond du Lac man who was holding her and her four children in the apartment. Eventually police had to force entry into the residence and rescued the victim and her children. The man holding them was taken into custody. During the initial sweep of the residence no gun was found. Thiry says making an entry like that is one of the most dangerous things a police officer can do, but in this case no one was injured.
