Thiesfeldt Bill Would Help With Replacing Lead Service Pipes

State Representative Jeremy Thiesfeldt has introduced a bill that will make it easier for municipalities to use money from Safe Drinking Water Loans to replace lead service pipes. Thiesfeldt says the state’s Public Service Commission has a rule that funds have to be distributed equally to all water utility customers, but not all customers have lead water pipes. He says the bill would channel the money to customers who need to replace their lead pipes. He says he’s been following the City of Fond du Lac’s efforts to replace lead pipe services as they do street projects. The City was awarded a $300,000 Safe Drinking Water Grant for that effort.
