Three Killed In FDL County Highway Work Zones Last Year

Fond du Lac
County Highway
Commissioner Tom Janke says National Work
Zone Awareness Week may have been last week, but any time is a good time for
drivers to be aware of those working in highway construction zones. County Sheriff’s
Captain Ryan Waldschmidt says he’s had some close call responding to traffic
accidents, but highway workers are out there all day dealing with passing cars.
Janke says highway workers could be out on the highways for either temporary
maintenance or road improvement projects, but are at the mercy of drivers. Waldschmidt
says there were nine people killed in highway construction zone accidents last
year and three, all drivers, were killed in Fond du Lac County last year. Fond du Lac County Highway
worker Dennis Roeseler was killed in an accident on I-41 then Highway 41 in
December of 2003.
