Tips Needed On Killing Of Common Tern Chicks

The state DNR’s Bureau of Law Enforcement is asking for help in finding those responsible for killing 25 chicks in a colony of Common Terns in Winnebago County. Terns are a state endangered bird species. DNR staff discovered the damaged colony and dead chicks Tuesday evening on an island in Lake Butte des Morts. The dead chicks were crushed by foot or by rock. They were 2 to 21 days old. Anyone with information is asked to call the DNR Hotline 1-800-847-9367 (1-800-TIP-WDNR). Callers can remain anonymous.
