Top Ten Consumer Complaints

The state’s Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection recently released its list of the Top Ten Consumer Complaints for 2017. Telemarketing and Landlord/Tenant complaints topped the list again although telemarketing was number one by far with over 4,100 complaints. Michelle Reinen is the Director of the Bureau of Consumer Protection. She says even though they get a number of complaints about phone scams they still want to hear from you if you get one. She says, “Because you might be the one that receives that new variation on a calling scam first and we need and want to know about that.” Coming in number two on the list were landlord/tenant complaints, which Reinen tells us is usually in the Top Five each year. She says, “So this has been in the Top Five of the Top Ten for a number of years. Many people rent in Wisconsin. I mean it is a form of housing and we have millions of consumers that rent.” Rounding out the Top Ten complaints were telecommunications, identity theft, home improvement, gas pumps, medical services, motor vehicle repair, motor vehicle sales, and fuel quality.
