Traffic Deaths Up Slightly For FDL County In 2015

Fond du Lac County finished 2015 with 12 traffic deaths compared to 10 the year before. Sheriff’s Captain Rick Olig says the last death occurred during an accident at Highway 23 and County Highway G in mid-November. He says we were fortunate weather didn’t play more of a factor in the last two months of the year. He says some of the deaths may have been preventable and a couple involved young children, two 4-year-olds. He says in the accidents that were preventable involved people not wearing seatbelts, alcohol or drugs were taken, or someone wasn’t wearing a motorcycle helmet. He says all the talk about the delay on expanding Highway 23 between Fond du Lac and Plymouth may have kept people more aware of how dangerous that stretch of road is. He says Highway 26 was also closed for quite a bit of the year. Fond du Lac County’s five-year average for traffic deaths is 12 deaths. Wisconsin had 560 traffic deaths in 2015 compared to 494 in 2014.
