Trooper And Suspect Killed In FDL Standoff

A Wisconsin State Trooper and a bank robbery suspect were killed in an exchange of gun fire in Fond du Lac Tuesday evening. During a press conference Fond du Lac Police Chief Bill Lamb said the trooper was following a vehicle that matched the description of a bank robbery suspect. He said a shootout happened that left both the trooper and suspect dead. It happened in the 100 block of North Berger Parkway. Chief Lamb expressed his condolences to the trooper’s family and the State Patrol. Dave Matthews is an administrator with the Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation, which is conducting the investigation into the shooting and circumstances leading up to it. He said more information will be released in the coming days. According to information from the Marinette County Sheriff’s Department the suspect may be the same man who robbed a bank in the Village of Wausaukee who fired off a handgun during that robbery and later may have shot and killed a man in his sixties while switching getaway vehicles. That suspect and vehicle were spotted by a state trooper in Fond du Lac leading up to the fatal exchange of gun fire.
