Truck Hits Amtrak Train In Dodge County

A truck driver was injured when a Freightliner truck towing an open trailer hit an Amtrak passenger train in Dodge County Friday afternoon. Dodge County Sheriff’s officials say it happened on County Highway BB south of State Highway 16/60 in the Town of Elba. The rail crossing gates were down and the lights were flashing for the Amtrak train that was approaching and heading east at about 80 miles an hour. The truck hit the third and fourth cars on the train after trying to avoid striking it. The train consisted of two engines and 11 passenger/baggage cars. There were 300 passengers and 11 crew members on the train, none of whom were injured. The truck driver was taken to Columbus Hospital.
