Unemployment Rate Rises Slightly

A new report shows Wisconsin’s unemployment rate rose slightly last month. Department of Workforce Development numbers released Thursday show the rate was 2.9 percent in June – up from a record low of 2.8 percent in May and April. That still beats the national unemployment rate by nearly a full percent, after it came in at 3.8 percent last month. 5,500 private sector jobs were added, along with 2,600 manufacturing sector jobs last month. The government sector added 1,900 positions, including 1,700 in local government.
