Update - Police say Oshkosh West Student Stabbed Officer Before Shooting

Oshkosh Police say a school resource officer at Oshkosh West High School shot and wounded a student after the teenager stabbed the officer.

Police Chief Dean Smith said in a news conference this (Tuesday) afternoon that 16-year-old student entered the officer’s office at the school, produced a weapon and then stabbed the officer. Smith said the officer shot the student once. The officer and student were taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries that are not considered life-threatening. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and is being handled by the State Department of Criminal Investigation.

Oshkosh Police also investigated a comment made on social media Tuesday implying a possible threat towards Oshkosh North High School. Police say a comment was written on the department’s Facebook page on a post about the officer-involved shooting at Oshkosh West. Detectives looked into the comment, but after investigation, police believe that it was not meant to be a threat against North High School and that students there are not in any danger.

All schools in the Oshkosh Area School District will be closed tomorrow (Wednesday) because of this morning’s incident at Oshkosh West.
