UW Health Doctor Says Masks Help Fight COVID-19 In Rural Areas

Fond du Lac County and Dodge County Sheriff’s Departments, as well as a handful of others in the state, have said they will not enforce the mask mandate issued by Governor Tony Evers, while also encouraging residents to do what’s best for their families. A UW Health doctor says the statewide mask mandate can help those in rural areas stem the spread of COVID-19.

“Many of those in smaller communities feel that they’re somewhat immune or protected from COVID-19. And what we want them to know is that, that’s not true. They are at risk at this point of getting the disease. It is going through our rural communities.”

Dr. Jeff Pothof said research not only supports that wearing masks protects others, but also it can help protect the person wearing it from getting sick too.
