UW Oshkosh Student May Have Been Trying To Manufacture Ricin

The 21-year-old Oshkosh
man arrested on a recklessly endangering safety charge may have been trying to
make the poison Ricin. Two UW-Oshkosh professors tipped police off that Kyle
Smith, a student at the school, had been asking them about making toxins from
plants. Ricin is found in castor bean plants. While searching a home in the 800
block of Frederick Street
last Friday authorities found a white powdery substance and a lab log book.
Oshkosh Police and the FBI are investigating. Smith is being held in the
Winnebago County Jail.
