Veterans Day Paid Holiday

State Senate Democrats introduced an amendment to a bill that would have given veterans Veterans Day off with pay whether they are a public or public sector employee. State Senate Minority Leader Jennifer Shilling says it seems wrong that many veterans who work can’t get off that day to take part in Veterans Day events while government offices are closed that day. She says the day should be recognized as an official state holiday. Republicans voted down the amendment. Shilling maintains if veterans work in the private sector they shouldn’t have to work that day. Shilling says Wisconsin is one of a handful of states that does not recognize Veterans Day as a state holiday.
