Violent Crime In FDL Down A Second Straight Year But Shootings A Concern

Fond du Lac Police Chief Bill Lamb gave the City Council some good news about violent crime while he updated the Council on his department’s needs for the 2016 Budget. Lamb says it went down 20 percent between 2012 and 2013 and another 10 percent last year. But he also told the Council the there have been nine shooting incidents in the past year and one of them involved the death of State Trooper Trevor Casper. He says the community is not immune to high profile violent crimes especially in the past few months. He says that include Trooper Casper’s shooting, two bank robberies, a drive-by shooting, an infant’s death, and a high speed chase where the driver could have hurt police officers and residents. Chief Lamb says people have to keep the violent crimes in perspective noting they handled nearly 57,000 calls for service last year and are on pace to handle about 59,000 this year.
