Walker Expected to Take Action on Legislation Today

Governor Scott Walker is expected to take action on a sweeping package of Republican-authored legislation today.

The bills would restrict early voting and weaken the powers of the incoming Democratic governor and attorney general.

Walker’s office announced the event will be held at noon today (Friday) at a Green Bay state office building.

Walker has repeatedly signaled support for the bills and downplayed bipartisan concerns that the move is a GOP power grab. Walker has also said he intends to make some partial vetoes, but did not specify what those would be.

The legislation gives the Republican legislature control of the state jobs creation agency and block Governor-elect Tony Evers from withdrawing the state from a multistate lawsuit challenging the Affordable Care Act. They also prevent Evers from withdrawing a federal waiver allowing the state to force Medicaid recipients to work to receive benefits.
