Waupun Man Arrested Following Pursuit

On Friday, June 20, 2014 at 8:00pm the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a possible intoxicated driver. It was reported to the Sheriff’s Office that a 41 year old Waupun man had been drinking, does not have a license and left in a vehicle possibly heading to Sheboygan to purchase cocaine.  A description of the vehicle along with the license plate was given to Fond du Lac County Deputies to attempt to locate the driver and vehicle.

At approximately 11:44pm, a Deputy from the Fond du Lac Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle traveling westbound on STH 23 from Cth W.  Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle on Hwy 23 at Taft Road in the Town of Empire.  The driver failed to stop and led deputies on a pursuit westbound on STH 23.  The driver was traveling at speeds of 103mph.  Deputies terminated the pursuit as the neared the City of Fond du Lac in the area of Wisconsin American Drive.  Another Fond du Lac County Deputy observed the vehicle to travel south on Prairie Road from STH 23.  Fond du Lac City Police Department were also advised of the pursuit and the termination of same pursuit.  Deputies and City Officers began to check the immediate area to attempt to locate the vehicle. 

At 11:51pm, Officer from the Fond du Lac City Police Department had seen a subject running in the area of South National Avenue and 4th Street.  A perimeter was set up in that area.  Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the Fond du Lac City PD K-9 Unit who was already in the area.  A search with the K-9 began in the area of 4th Street and Morningside Drive in the City of Fond du Lac.  The subject was seen running through a field into a tree line south of 4th Street.  Subject failed to stop running after Officers identified themselves and ordered subject to stop or K-9 would be sent.  Subject ran into the tree line. Fond du Lac City K-9 Paco was able to locate the subject.  The subject resisted and was bit by K-9.  Subject was taken into custody shortly after by Fond du Lac City Police Department.  Officers checked the area of where the subject was apprehended and located a pack of cigarettes with a substance believed to be crack cocaine.

Fond du Lac City Paramedics were requested at the scene to check the subject for a dog bite.  Subject was identified as the driver of the vehicle.  Vehicle was located nearby and not damaged.  

Subject was arrested and booked in the Fond du Lac County Jail on charges for Eluding an Officer, OWI 6th, Possession of Cocaine-repeater, Possession Schedule II narcotic- repeater, Domestic Battery, Probation Hold and other traffic violations. The pursuit only lasted 3.1 miles.
