Waupun Man Facing Sexual Assault And Reckless Endangering Charges

Bond has been set at $50,000 cash for a 43-year-old Waupun man who got into a confrontation with police while he was armed last weekend. Waupun Police Chief Dale Heeringa says officers went to a home in the 400 block of Bittersweet Lane early last Saturday morning to get a piece of evidence in a case they were investigating. The wife of suspect Michael LaFond was leading them down a narrow corridor in the ranch-style home when she stepped back from a bathroom off the master bedroom. She was saying to him “not to do it.” LaFond had a revolver to his head and a semi-automatic pistol at his side. He says LaFond ended up turning over the guns to the officers, but the officers had to draw their weapons first. He says it easily could have turned deadly for the officers. LaFond made his initial appearance in Fond du Lac County Court Wednesday. He’s facing 6 felony charges including multiple sexual assault of a child charges, 2nd degree recklessly endangering safety, and a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 4th.
