Waupun Schools Mill Rate Lower Than Expected

An increase in state aid helped keep the Waupun Area School District’s mill rate lower than expected. With the passing of a $36 million referendum a year ago this month, officials in the Waupun School District were expecting the mill rate to increase. But the district is receiving about $570,000 more in state aid than anticipated. Waupun Schools Superintendent Tonya Olson says that is a blessing in disguise. Last year’s rate was $9.95 and this year it will be $9.90. Olson believes the school board’s approach to planning for the long term helps keep the mill rate in check. The good news about the drop in the mill rate was shared with district residents at the School Board’s annual meeting.
