West Bend Bank Robbery

A 31-year-old Hartford man is in custody after he allegedly robbed the Westbury Bank on West Washington in West Bend late yesterday afternoon. West Bend Police say the man entered the bank at 5:00 and handed a teller a note demanding money. He left the bank with an undetermined amount of cash. A witness saw him run to a truck parked across the street and head east on West Washington. The witness gave police a description and officers responded. After a brief pursuit, the man stopped in front of the Fleet Farm parking lot. When ordered to exit the vehicle, the man got out holding a knife to his neck. He refused to drop the knife and cut himself in the neck before he could be disarmed. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment of that injury.

Police say the man had a warrant from Milwaukee county for drug possession charges. The Washington County District Attorney’s office will be filing local charges.
