Winter Parking Ordinances

Fond du Lac Winter Parking:

Grab your hats, gloves, coats, and boots as the winter weather season is fast approaching! During this transitional time of year,The City of Fond du Lac Police Department and the Department of Public Works is taking this opportunity to remind the members of the community that the WINTER PARKING RESTRICTIONS go into effect on November 15th.

Parking from November 15th to March 15th is restricted

between the hours of 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.

On EVEN NUMBERED DAYS, starting at 8:00 p.m. parking is restricted to the EVEN side of the street. On ODD NUMBERED DAYS, starting at 8:00 p.m. parking is restricted to the ODD side of the street.

Any METERED AREA is still restricted to 60 minutes between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.

This ordinance overrides all other on-street parking restrictions where parking is allowed.

Here is a quick example to help clarify: On November 15th at 8:00 p.m. you are to park on the ODD numbered side of the street, even if that side of the street states “No Parking on this Side.”

Also, with the winter season comes the numerous holiday celebrations that many people choose to participate in. Please remember to inform your visiting guests and family of the parking restriction, as we do not wish to dampen the holiday cheer with a $20.00 parking ticket.

If you have any questions please call the shift commander at 322-3710.

North Fond du Lac Winter Parking:

While many of us don’t want to be reminded, winter is just around the corner…and Winter Parking Restrictions will be in place soon. The regulations and restrictions are similar to those in the City of Fond du Lac. Winter Parking regulations for North Fond du Lac will begin November 15th and remain in effect through March 15th next year. Please cooperate with public works crews by following the restrictions that have been established so that they can be most effective in keeping our roads safe.

The ordinance specifies that no person shall park on any street from November 15th through March 15th, between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m., except in the following manner: From 8 p.m. of an even calendar date to 8 a.m. the following day, parking shall only be permitted on the side of the street with even-numbered addresses. From 8 p.m. of an odd calendar date to 8 a.m. the following day, parking shall only be permitted on the side of the street with odd-numbered addresses.

Where ordinance already prohibits parking on one side of the street, the provisions of this ordinance shall be superseded by those restrictions and parking shall always be in accordance with those regulations.

Parking penalties for the first violation of the winter parking ordinance during any snow removal season will be $15.00 ($30 if not paid within 5 days).  The penalty for the second violation shall be $30.00 ($45 if not paid within 5 days).  The third violation shall be $50.00 ($65 if not paid within 5 days), and the fine for any fourth or subsequent violation of the winter parking ordinance during a snow removal season shall be $100.00.

During any time of snow emergency, which is determined by the Director of Public Services, all vehicles will be required to be moved off the streets by 2 a.m.  Failure to adhere to this section will result in citation and towing of vehicles, which are in violation, at owner’s expense.

If you have any questions regarding the ordinance, please feel free to contact the North Fond du Lac Police Department administrative office @ 929-3760. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Waupun Winter Parking And Snow Removal:

Winter parking regulations state that on any day that we receive 2 or more inches of snow, and the day after, vehicles cannot park on city streets or alleys between the hours of 2:00am and 6:00am.  Snowfall is measured at the Waupun Safety Building.  During these early morning hours the Public Works Department is out cleaning the streets.  If cars are parked on the streets during this time City staff has the authority to have the vehicle removed and stored at the owners expense.  For further information regarding winter parking regulations please visit the city website www.cityofwaupun.org (Government, Municipal Codes), and review Chapter 6, Traffic Code section 6.05(4).

Snow and ice removal is addressed in Chapter 7 of our municipal code.  Property owners are given 24 hours after the end of a snowfall to remove snow and ice from sidewalks.  Failure to do so is cause for the city to clean up the area and will result in a minimum fee of $100.00.  The City provides notice of these winter rules in the local paper and will put door hangers on any property they have to clean up.  Pictures of the property are taken before the property is cleaned for verification of violation.  Visit the city website, and review Chapter 7, sections 7.07 and 7.08 for additional information on snow and ice removal requirements.  You can also call City Hall or the Police Department for further clarification.
