Wisconsin DNR Launching “Own Your Wake” Campaign

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is
partnering with the Minnesota DNR in a public campaign to encourage boaters to
be “good neighbors” and reduce big wakes that may put other boaters, paddlers,
anglers and swimmers – along with shoreline property owners at risk. The
campaign is being driven by a growing number of calls and complaints about
excessive wakes in both Wisconsin and Minnesota. Wisconsin Chief Conservation
Warden Todd Schaller says “One person’s boating fun should not cause safety
concerns and damage for others. We hope boaters understand the impacts of boat
wakes and voluntarily comply with existing rules and basic principles of
on-the-water courtesy.” Anyone with information on natural resource violations
can confidentially report them to the DNR 24 hours a day by calling or texting
1-800-TIP-WDNR (1-800-847-9367).
