Wisconsin Poverty Rate Unchanged in 2017

A new Census Bureau report shows Wisconsin’s poverty rate in 2017 was unchanged from the year before. The 11.3 percent rate is below the national average of 12.3 percent. The median household income rose over a thousand dollars to about $59,300 – which is still lower than twenty-one other states, including Minnesota’s $68,400 and the median of $63,000 in Illinois. The number of state residents 65 years of age and older went up about a half percent, while there was no significant change in the number of foreign-born residents – which stuck around 5-percent.
