Wisconsin Psychiatrist Shortage

A report is showing a shortage of psychiatrists in Wisconsin – with 20 out
of 72 counties lacking a practicing psychiatrist. A Wisconsin Public Radio
report shows that some counties are even sharing their practicing
psychiatrists.

The Wisconsin Policy Forum points to loan and grant assistance
programs aimed to draw psychiatrists to under-served areas, as the Medical
College of Wisconsin has also started two new residency programs.  A 2017 Department of Health Services report
shows more than half of adults who needs mental health treatment in the state
are not getting it.
