Wisconsins First Public School Teacher Subject Of History At Home Series

The Fond du Lac Public Library invites residents to find out more about the state’s first public school teacher during two presentations on Thursday. Community Information Coordinator Terri Fleming says as part of their History at Home series Wisconsin author Karyn Saemann will be doing presentations on Electa Quinney a Stockbridge Indian. Quinney came to Wisconsin in 1828, before it was a state.  She says in a way Quinney was like Forrest Gump in that she found herself in locations and situations of historical importance to her people, to Wisconsin and the nation. Saemann wrote a book about Quinney. Fleming says the book is written for families and young readers ages 7 to 12. Saemann will be doing presentations at 2 and 6 p.m. The presentations are free and registration is not required. Refreshments will be served. Saemann will have copies of her book for sale and will autograph them.
