WLA Open Houses On McDermott Park Proposal This Week

Officials at Winnebago Lutheran Academy will be holding two open houses this week to share with the community their proposal for a lease agreement, which would allow them to build three athletic fields and a parking lot in Fond du Lac’s McDermott Park. Pastor John Boggs is the school’s Director of Communications and Mission Advancement. He says WLA is willing to invest up to $500,000 in the two softballs diamonds, football-soccer practice field and parking lot. He says the City would get some nice fields out of the 50 year lease, which would benefit the community not just WLA. He says they’ve been an area Lutheran high school for 90 years, nearly 60 of that at their current location. Boggs says they have plans for their future beyond the athletic fields, but they are limited to the land they currently have. He says they would like to build a new chapel/ auditorium, but there is only so much they can do with their current footprint. The open houses are Wednesday from 12:30 to 1 p.m. and Thursday from 6 to 6:30 p.m. at WLA’s media center.
