Women Providing Leadership For FDL City Council

Does Fond du Lac take the leadership women provide on the City Council for granted? Prior to this week’s City Council meeting Council President Lee Ann Lorrigan did an interview with a Green Bay TV station. Lorrigan says other City Councils up the Valley aren’t represented by a majority of women members. She says while four of the Fond du Lac City Council’s seven members are women, Green Bay for instance has one woman on its Council.  She says part of that might be due to the fact that Green Bay does not have term limits for its members, which could result in the same representation for years. In Fond du Lac there are term limits, which Lorrigan says allows for more opportunities for women to run.  She says occasionally she is approached by women who ask her about being in politics. She says she always hopes that they will follow through and run for office themselves.
