Work on North Main Street in FDL Coming Soon

Construction work on Johnson Street this week is just one
of the road projects that drivers around Fond du Lac will see this summer.
While the work on Johnson continues, public works crews already have their eyes
on the next project, which will affect a portion of north Main Street. “The
stretch from south of Johnson Street through the Merrill intersection, so not
the Johnson and Main intersection but south of there, will be fully
reconstructed starting in about a month,” Fond du Lac Public Works Director
Jordan Skiff said. The project includes “some new utilities underneath, a new
layout of the intersection at Merrill and Main, it will have a bike lane along
one side of Merrill, and some storm sewer work under the roadway along Merrill.”
Skiff says bids were opened for the project this week, so a more definitive
schedule should be known in the near future.

Skiff tells us the hope is to keep a lane of traffic open
during the project to provide access to local businesses, but he encourages
people to utilize Macy Street or other routes to get to where they need to go.
Skiff anticipates the project being a “several month process” depending on when
it gets started, so work could last until September or October.
