Working On The Worker Shortage

State Senator Dan Feyen is among those working on the worker shortage. He notes a few years ago we were talking about the skills gap, but that has now shifted to conversations about addressing the worker shortage. Officials would like to take the tourism message and turn it into a workforce message that Wisconsin is a great place to live and work and play. Feyen says there has also been discussion about attracting out-of-state workers such as those displaced by hurricanes including people from Houston. He feels Wisconsin is cheaper to live in than Houston and jobs are plentiful here. Some of the agencies Feyen and his staff are meeting with to put together strategy for the worker shortage problem include people from the Governor’s Office, the Department of Administration, the Workforce Development Department, and the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation.
