Badgers Beat Minnesota, Finish Regular Season 12-0

For the first time in 105 years, the Wisconsin football team has finished the season undefeated, after the Badgers shutout Minnesota 31-0 at TCF Bank Stadium Saturday afternoon. The win completes the unbeaten, 12-0 regular season, the first for the Badgers without a loss since they went 7-0 in the 1912 campaign.

Alex Hornibrook threw for 151 yards and three touchdowns, and Jonathan Taylor had 20 carries for 149 yards and a score in the win. Wisconsin totaled 456 yards of offense while the stingy Badger defense held Minnesota to just 133 yards and eight first downs in the loss. It was Minnesota’s second straight shutout defeat to end the year, after a 39-0 loss to Northwestern in Evanston last Saturday. The loss also keeps Minnesota out of a bowl game with a 5-7 record in the first season for head coach PJ Fleck.

In addition to the 12-0 finish to the regular season, Wisconsin keeps Paul Bunyan’s Axe for the 14th consecutive year in the rivalry series with Minnesota. It’s the longest win streak in the history of the rivalry, which is the most played in the FBS with 127 meetings all time. With the win, Wisconsin also takes a lead in the all-time series with Minnesota for the first time at 60-59-8.

Wisconsin advances to take on Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship game Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Coverage on KFIZ next Saturday begins at 5pm with kickoff at 7pm.
