Brewers/Cardinals Game Postponed Again; Cain Opts Out of Remainder of 2020 Season

For the second day in a row, the scheduled game between the
Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals at Miller Park has been postponed.

Friday’s game was postponed after two Cardinals’ players
tested positive for COVID-19, and Saturday’s game was shelved after the entire
team was tested and four more tests came back positive. A press release from
Major League Baseball says the team was tested Friday using a rapid test, which
resulted in one additional Cardinals player and multiple staff members may be
positive. Saliva samples were also sent to a lab in Utah for testing.

The Brewers and Cardinals were set to play a doubleheader
Sunday afternoon. No announcement on the status of those games has been made.

 

In addition to the game postponements, the Brewers learned
Saturday that they will be playing without one of their team leaders for the
remainder of the season. The team announced mid-day Saturday that outfielder
Lorenzo Cain has opted out of the remainder of the season, and will not play
again this year. Cain was batting .333 with a double and two RBI in five games
so far this year. Brewers General Manager David Stearns said in a statement, “We
fully support Lorenzo’s decision, and will miss his talents on the field and
leadership in the clubhouse.”
