Cardinals Fly High In Season Opening Win

The Fond du Lac Cardinals snapped Appleton North’s 42 game home win streak with a 27-7 season opening road win on Friday night.  Appleton North led seven nothing at the half when quarterback Bruce Schroeder plunged in from 1 yard out with :31 seconds left in the 2nd quarter.  Fondy dominated the Lightning in the 2nd half, holding North to just 55 total yards and outscoring them 27-0.  Senior quarterback Jack Nejedlo threw TD passes of 37 and 39 yards to Brian Luteyn and Kyle Pierce respectively.  Nejedlo also ran for a 35 yard score to put the game away.  Justin Maratik led the ground game with 105 yards and a TD.  Appleton North’s 42 game home win streak dates back to October 13th, 2006, when they were beaten by Neenah 14-6.  Fondy will host Appleton West in a non-conference game next Friday night.  You’ll hear it on News-Talk 1450 KFIZ.
