Cardinals Season Ends At Kimberly

The Kimberly Papermakers ended the Fond du Lac football team’s season with a
41-15 win in the WIAA Division One State Quarterfinals on Friday night in
Kimberly. Fond du Lac
found themselves up 7-0 just three plays into the game when senior quarterback
Jack Nejedlo raced around the left side for a 73-yard touchdown run.  Just :15 seconds later Kimberly evened the
score on their first play from scrimmage when senior Bret Verstegen took a
screen pass 55 yards to the house. Blair Mulholland put the Papermakers up 14-7
with a 9 yard run with 3:08 left in the 1st quarter.  Fondy looked like they would answer midway
through the 2nd quarter when Jack Nejedlo ran up the middle for an
11 yard TD but it was called back on a holding penalty and Fondy’s drive
stalled with no points.  With 2:21 left
in the 2nd, Evan Dux scored on a 1 yard run to make it 21-7 at the
half.  Dux scored on runs of 3 and 1
yards in the 3rd to bust open the game 34-7.  Ben Boots caught a 55 yards TD pass with
11:04 left in the 4th to make it 41-7.  Quinn Woelfel added a late 1 yard TD run to
round out the scoring.  Nejedlo led Fondy’
on the ground with 95 yards, on 14 carries and a touchdown.  Junior Justin Maratik carried it 13 times for
82 yards. Maratik ended up with a single season school record 1889 rushing
yards.  Fondy’s year ends at 10-2.
Kimberly improves to 12-0.
