Cardinals Season Ends At Kimberly

The Kimberly Papermakers ended the Fond du Lac football team’s season with a
41-15 win in the WIAA Division One State Quarterfinals on Friday night in
Kimberly. Fond du Lac
found themselves up 7-0 just three plays into the game when senior quarterback
Jack Nejedlo raced around the left side for a 73-yard touchdown run.  Just :15 seconds later Kimberly evened the
score on their first play from scrimmage when senior Bret Verstegen took a
screen pass 55 yards to the house. Blair Mulholland put the Papermakers up 14-7
with a 9 yard run with 3:08 left in the 1^st quarter.  Fondy looked like they would answer midway
through the 2^nd quarter when Jack Nejedlo ran up the middle for an
11 yard TD but it was called back on a holding penalty and Fondy’s drive
stalled with no points.  With 2:21 left
in the 2^nd, Evan Dux scored on a 1 yard run to make it 21-7 at the
half.  Dux scored on runs of 3 and 1
yards in the 3^rd to bust open the game 34-7.  Ben Boots caught a 55 yards TD pass with
11:04 left in the 4^th to make it 41-7.  Quinn Woelfel added a late 1 yard TD run to
round out the scoring.  Nejedlo led Fondy’
on the ground with 95 yards, on 14 carries and a touchdown.  Junior Justin Maratik carried it 13 times for
82 yards. Maratik ended up with a single season school record 1889 rushing
yards.  Fondy’s year ends at 10-2.
Kimberly improves to 12-0.
