The Fond du Lac
football team held on to beat Hortonville 28-26 on Friday night at Fruth
Memorial Field to grab sole possession of 2nd place in the VFA-South.  Fondy trailed 14-7 with 2:06 left in the
first half, but Justin Maratik scored from one yard out to even the game at
14-14.   Just a few seconds later, Jake
Walgenbach’s league leading 7th interception set up a 22 yard TD
catch from Jack Nejedlo to Brian Luteyn with :18 seconds left until the break
giving Fondy the 21-14 lead..  Nejedlo
scored from 10 yards out extending Fond
du Lac
’s lead to 28-14 with 5:50 left in the 3rd
quarter.  Hortonville’s Mitch Gerhartz
answered with a 3 yard run with 1:32 left in the 3rd quarter but the
extra point was blocked leaving Fondy with a 28-20 lead.  Hortonville made it a pacemaker finish though
as Braden Stoeger hits Kyle Witthuhn on a 12 yard TD pass on 4th
down to pull within two.  The 2-point
conversion fell incomplete and Fondy escaped with the win. Justin Maratik
finished with 159 yards and 2 TDs.  Jack
Nejedlo added 127 yards and a TD on the ground. 
Fondy (7-1, 5-1) will wrap up the regular season on Thursday night when
