Diener Takes Job At Marquette

Less than 48 hours after announcing his retirement from
professional basketball Fond du Lac native Travis Diener has been named
Director of Player Personnel for the Marquette Basketball program.  Diener says that Marquette’s new head coach Steve Wojciechowski
texted him offering him a position when he was done playing basketball not
knowing he was thinking about his retirement this year.

Diener still had three years left on his contract in Italy but says
family played a big role in the decision to join the MU staff.  He says he has two young daughters under the
age of two and a half and didn’t like being away for long periods of time.

He added during an interview with KFIZ on Wednesday morning
that he looks forward to learning from Coach Wojciechowski who played for Coach
Mike Krzyzewski at Duke.

After graduating from Goodrich
High School in 2001, Diener went on to
have an All-American career at Marquette
that included a trip to the 2003 Final Four.
Diener was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2005 NBA Draft by
the Orlando Magic.  He played five season’s
in the NBA with Orlando, Indiana
, and Portland before heading off to play in Italy’s top
professional league the last four seasons.
This will be the first coaching opportunity
