Fondy Athletic Hall of Fame Weekend

The Fond du Lac High School Athletic Department is proud to
announce the Class of 2014 Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees. The Hall of Fame
weekend celebrations will be on August 29 and 30, 2014. The inductees will be
recognized at half time of the 7:OO p.m. home football game on August 29 at
Fruth Field in Fond du Lac. Also being honored during half time will be the
1991 State Champion Wrestling team.

 

The Hall of Fame banquet will be held on Saturday, August 30
at the Knights of Columbus (KC) Hall located at 795 Fond du Lac Avenue.  The night will begin with a social at 5:00
p.m., dinner at 6:00 and the induction ceremony at 7:00.  Ticket prices for the dinner are $25 and can
be purchased at Fond du Lac High School in the main office or reserved with
Kevin Deering, Athletic Director by emailing deeringk@fonddulac.k12.wi.us or
calling 920-906-6508.

 

Congratulations to the following individuals on being
inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame:

 

Dan Adams:  Dan Adams was a 3-sport letter winner in
football, weightlifting, and track.  He
graduated from Goodrich High School in 1970. 
During his athletic career at Fond du Lac he was part of 4 state
championship teams (Weightlifting – 3 and Football – 1).  Dan was a 3-time individual state champion in
the super heavyweight division and set state records in 1969 and 1970 in the
bench, squat, deadlift, and combined weights. 
He went on to play football for the University of Minnesota from 1970-73
and won the Henry L. Williams Scholarship in 1972 for scholastic and athletic
achievements.

 

Wes Bolin:  Wes Bolin taught Social Studies and was
the Head Hockey coach for 18 years at Goodrich and Fond du Lac High
School.  In his time leading the
Cardinals hockey program he won 7 Conference Championships, 8 Sectional
Championships and had two teams finish as State Runner-Up (1995 &
2001).  He was named Coach of the Year in
1995 in the state of Wisconsin.  After
leaving Fond du Lac, Wes went to Coach in Minnesota and was named the Coach of
the Year in 2007.  His 26-year coaching
record is 386-213-28 and his post-season record was 58-27.

 

Tara
Hinke-Trager:
  Tara Hinke was a 2002
graduate and lettered in cross country, swimming, track and dance while
attending Fond du Lac.  Tara was
All-State in both cross country and track (1600- and 3200-meter runs).  She was named female runner of the year in
2001 for Cross Country and ran a time of 14:15. 
She went on to Marquette University under a Cross Country and Track
Scholarship.  She was a national
qualifier in cross country in 2005 and earned her degree in nursing.

 

Greg Nelson:  Greg Nelson lettered in football, hockey and
baseball for Fondy and graduated in 1965. 
He earned hockey All-State recognition in 1965.  Greg went on to join the Wisconsin Badger
hockey team and was a 3-time letter winner for Wisconsin.  After college, Greg continued to play hockey
for the Fond du Lac Bears, Green Bay Bobcats, Dayton Gems, Marquette Rangers
and Waterloo Blackhawks.  After his
playing days, Greg began coaching with his first assignment as the Head Hockey
coach for Beaver Dam High School, was the USA Hockey coaching director
(1987-1997) and helped start the Marian College women’s hockey program.

 

Mark Scheibach:  Mark is a 1991 graduate from Fond du Lac and
was a 2-sport letter winner in hockey and golf. 
Mark earned 4 All-State honors (Golf – 3 and Hockey – 1) in his time at
Fondy and was part of 5 team conference championships (Golf – 4 and Hockey -1).  He set the lowest nine-hole score in state
history in 1991 with a score of 29.  He
went on to play golf for the Badgers and was 1st team All Big 10 in
1994, 95, and 96.  After college, he
played professional golf in the Canadian, Web.com, and PGA Tours.  He is currently the General Manager and COO
of Avondale Golf Club.

 

Dan Schrum:  A 1998 graduate, Dan was a 3-sport letter
winner in football, basketball, and baseball. 
He was a player on 4 FVA Conference Championship teams (Basketball – 3
and Baseball – 1).  In his senior year,
Dan was named to the USA Today All-American team at the position of catcher.
Dan went on to play college baseball for both Valparaiso University (2000-2002)
and UW-Whitewater (2003).  Dan currently
works for HDR Engineering, Inc.

 

John Zoelle:  A 1966 graduate of Goodrich, Zoelle
participated in football, wrestling, and track for the Cardinals.  Zoelle earned 6 All-Conference awards in the
100- and 220-yard dashes in his time at Fondy. 
He was a 2-time state champion in the 100-yard dash (1965 and 1966). He
tied the state record in the 60-yard dash in 1964 with a time of 6.3
seconds.  He tied the conference record
in the 100-yard dash at 9.8 seconds and held the conference record in the
220-yard dash at 21.9 seconds.
