Fondy Boys Slip By Patriots

The Fond du Lac
boys basketball team picked up a wild 54-52 win at Appleton East on Thursday
night.  The Cardinals and Patriots played
even to a 29-29 tie through the first 16 minutes as each team connected on
seven first half three pointers.  Fondy
led 38-37 at the end of 3rd and held off East in a crazy final 2.8
seconds of the game.  Up three Fond du Lac decided to
foul rather than let East take a potential game tying three pointer.  They had already hit 11 from beyond the arc
on the night.   Mike Thome made the first
and missed the 2nd free throw on purpose.  East got the rebound and had a shot blocked
out of bounds but just 1.5 seconds came off the clock in the sequence.  The referees huddled and moved the clock down
to .8 seconds.  East inbounded the ball
to the right block where Parker Ourada caught the ball, dribbled and hit a
fade-away jumper to apparently tie the game before the final buzzer sounded.  The referees huddled at mid-court and after
talking about it for five-plus minutes waved off the basket because the game
clock failed to start on time.   Jake
Walgenbach led Fond du Lac
with 18 points.  Marcus Ruch scored 11 of
his 12 in the first half, including three from beyond the arc.  Mike Thome led East with 16.  Fond
du Lac
