Fondy Earns Playoff Bid

The Fond du Lac football earned a playoff bid with a 34-19 win over Wisconsin Rapids on Homecoming at Fruth Field on Friday night.  Senior Ty Krueger helped Fondy jump out to a 13-0 lead at the end of one quarter as he ran for a 30 yard TD and caught a 70 yard TD from Jake Walgenbach.  The Cardinals pushed their lead to 20-0 when Kyle Pierce went around the right side for a 35 yard TD with 10:01 left in the first half.  Fondy led 20-3 at the break.  Quinn Woelfel ran for a 35 yard score to make it 27-3 with 4:11 left in the 3rd.  Fondy added their first defensive score of the season when Jason Toscher picked off a Rapids pitch in mid-air and ran 25 yards for a TD to push the lead to 34-3.  Rapids added two late TDs and a safety to wrap up the scoring.  Justin Maratik ran 15 times for 72 yard while Kyle Pierce had 9 carries for 55 yards and a TD.  Ty Krueger ran 2 times for 31 yards and a TD and caught 3 passes for 125 yards and a TD.  Fondy is 4-3 in the VFA-South and 4-5 overall.  They will be in the postseason.  Playoff bids come out on Saturday.
