Men’s College Basketball:

Baylor 70, Wisconsin 65

--A double-double of 23 points and 13 rebounds from Ethan Happ wasn’t enough to lead the Badgers to victory as Wisconsin fell to Baylor in the Hall of Fame Classic in Kansas City Monday night. Brad Davison added 13 points off the bench in the loss for Wisconsin, their second straight defeat after a 2-0 start. Wisconsin will face UCLA in the consolation game of the HOF Classic, pregame coverage begins at 5:30, tipoff is 6:30 pm. Hear the game on KFIZ and kfiz.com.

Marquette 94, VCU 83

--Markus Howard scored 22 points, Andrew Rowsey and Sam Hauser each had 20 as the Golden Eagles topped the Rams in the Maui Invitational. Marquette will take on Wichita State at 12:30 this afternoon in the semifinals.

Women’s College Basketball:

Wisconsin 77, Southern 74


Washington 99, Milwaukee 88

--Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 23 points, Khris Middleton had 15, Eric Bledsoe added 14 in the loss for the Bucks. Milwaukee hits the road for a four-game western road trip. The first game is in Phoenix tomorrow night.


Atlanta 34, Seattle 31

--Matt Ryan threw for 195 yards and two touchdowns in the win as Atlanta held off Seattle on Monday Night Football.

College Football:

Wisconsin’s Nick Nelson was named the Big Ten’s Special Teams Player of the Week, while Jonathan Taylor was named the conference’s co-Freshman of the Week after the team’s 24-10 win over Michigan on Saturday. Nelson scored the first punt return touchdown of his career on a 50 yard return in the first quarter on Saturday. Taylor carried the ball 19 times for 132 yards in Saturday’s win, marking his eighth game with at least 100 yards this year. It’s the seventh time he has earned the honor, tying him for the most in conference history alongside Ohio State’s JT Barrett. Taylor shared this week’s award with Indiana’s Morgan Ellison.

Three Badger football players were named finalists for major awards on Monday. Senior tight end Troy Fumagalli was announced as one of three finalists for the John Mackey Award, which is given to the nation’s top Tight End. Freshman running back Jonathan Taylor was named a finalist for the Doak Walker Award, given to the nation’s top running back and junior linebacker TJ Edwards was named a finalist for the Butkus Award, which is given to the nation’s top linebacker.

UW-Oshkosh quarterback Brett Kasper was named a semifinalist for the Gagliardi Trophy, which is handed out to the nation’s top student athlete in Division Three football. Kasper has thrown for 2,201 yards and 24 touchdowns through 10 games this year. The Titans will face North Central College of Illinois in round two of the D3 playoffs this Saturday. Kickoff is at Noon from Titan Stadium.
