KFIZ Sports Scoreboard : 12/19/19

NBA:

An N-B-A player some call the best of all-time offers high praise for Milwaukee star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo. LeBron James and the so-called Greek Freak meet on the court tonight when the Bucks host the Los Angeles Lakers. James says Antetokounpo has “gotten better every year” he’s been in the league. He says the Bucks have done a good job of surrounding the 6-11 emerging superstar with guys who compliment his skill-set. James’ teams have won 14-of-18 games against the Bucks since Antetokounmpo arrived.  On the other hand, Giannis has won two of the last three meetings with the Lakers. Tipoff time tonight is 7 pm, coverage begins at 6:30 on KFIZ.

Men’s College Basketball:

Ohio State transfer Micah Potter will make his long-awaited Badgers debut Saturday against U-W Milwaukee at the Kohl Center. The N-C-A-A denied five Wisconsin appeals on behalf of Potter to play earlier this season. It’s been 92 weeks since Potter was on the court for the Buckeyes in an N-C-A-A Tournament loss to Gonzaga. Potter told reporters that he’s getting anxious. He transferred to U-W one year ago and sat out the entire 2018-2019 season. Potter is now eligible to play after the first semester ended. He averaged just over four points and two-point-eight rebounds in 59 games at Ohio State over two seasons.

Big Ten:

Michigan State 77, Northwestern 72

College Football:

The Wisconsin Football team announced Wednesday the signing of 21 players as part of their 2020 recruiting class as the early signing period opened. The class of 19 scholarship signees and two walk-ons is highlighted by four high school prospects rated four stars, the Wisconsin Badgers football recruiting class is ranked high by several publications.  24/7 ranks the Badgers 26th in the country, up from 29th last year. E-S-P-N also puts the Badgers at 26th, while Rivals says their Class of 2020 is the 32nd best in the nation.

Baseball:

Versatile infielder Eric Sogard will be a Brewer once again. Various sources are reporting the 34-year-old has signed a one-year deal worth four-and-a-half million dollars with the club. Sogard had the best season of his career last year playing with Toronto and Tampa Bay. He hit a combined .290 with an O-P-S of .810. Sogard is considered to be a good defender at second, short and third. He was with Milwaukee in parts of the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

Volleyball:

The Wisconsin Women’s Volleyball team looks to make history this weekend in Pittsburgh as they compete in the Final Four. The Badgers play #1 seed Baylor tonight to open play. In 38 years of the N-C-A-A women’s volleyball tournament, only 10 schools have won all of the national titles.  Taking honors this weekend would elevate the U-W program into that inner circle. Of this year’s Final Four teams, Stanford has taken home the big prize eight times. Wisconsin, Baylor and Minnesota have never been national champions.

NHL:

Colorado 4, Chicago 1
